Route and Transfers
Car
Wherever your vacation trip begins, it is very easy to drive to La Chapelle d’Abondance, because nearly the entire route is motorway. You only ride through the mountains for the last 20 kilometers. Although the roads are almost always clear, you are legally required to have snow chains with you in the winter.
La Chapelle d’Abondance is approximately a 9-hour drive from Utrecht. The route over the German autobahn is the shortest, but not always the fastest due to road work. We prefer to drive via Luik, Luxemburg, Strasbourg, Basel, Bern and then across the border into France via Monthey. Would you like to drive in two days? If so, then the city of Colmar is the ideal stopover and certainly worth a visit around Christmastime.
Note: are you driving via Switzerland and then Châtel? If so, the sign “Esprit Montagne” is past the hotel driveway. (Coming from the direction of Abondance, however, is not a problem.) Keep an eye out for the house, the pedestrian crossing and the bus stop sign in the photo shown here. The hotel driveway is located right at the bus stop and the pedestrian crossing.
Airplane
The nearest large airport is Geneva. Geneva is located 71 kilometers from La Chapelle d´Abondance. The cheapest flights from the Netherlands can be booked with EasyJet and Transavia. The flight takes just 1.5 to 2 hours.
From Geneva, take the train to Thonon. From there, take the bus or a taxi transfer to La Chapelle. You can also take a taxi transfer directly to La Chapelle.
Train
With the train, you travel via Geneva to Thonon. You will, however, have to transfer a few times. Thonon is located 31 kilometers from La Chapelle d’Abondance. At the train station, you will take the bus to the hotel (bus in the direction of Châtel). The “La Panthiaz” bus stop is in front of the door.
You can also travel via Switzerland. Take the train in the direction of Aigle. This is a comfortable trip with no transfer and with a beautiful view of Lake Geneva and the Alps. A train tickets costs approximately €38 per person. From here, you can take either the busski or a taxi to La Chapelle d’Abondance.
Bus
From early February to mid-March, Interbus rides every Friday from various Dutch cities directly to the Vallée d’Abondance. You arrive in the village on Saturday. We would be happy to pick you up there. The return trip leaves on Saturday night.
Transfers
We provide transfers to/from La Chapelle d’Abondance. The most common arrival locations are Geneva (airport) and the Thonon-les-Bains train station. The transfers are available by request, because the options and price depend on the number of people, the time of the transfer and the type of transfer (private or shared).
